Curriculum and Activities

Curriculum

The curriculum of Holy Name School is based on both state requirements and diocesan policies. It consists of religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, music, art, and physical education. In addition Holy Name School offers programs in computer, library, health and family life.

Title One remedial services are offered in both mathematics and reading through the direction of Sylvan Learning. We are honored to be hosting the main office of the Sylvan Title One Offices here at Holy Name School.

Through each subject in the curriculum, especially reading and mathematics, sensitivity to the individual needs of each child will be emphasized. Children will be moved along a continuum as mastery of skills and concepts dictate. This will be accomplished through placement, groupings and diversity of materials and assignments

PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

Our physical education program is a part of the total educational process and contributes to the overall development of each individual through physical activity. It is an organized sequence of learning experiences necessary to fulfill the physical and behavioral development of each student while also stressing our educational philosophy as a Catholic institution.

  • socially, for cooperation in successful interaction
  • emotionally, by encouraging good sportsmanship in order to develop positive responses towards both success and failu
  • mentally, by acquiring knowledge of rules, regulations and strategies which apply to recreation

LIBRARY

Each class visits the library at least once a week; this includes pre-kindergarten through grade eight. A variety of educational activities are planned as daily lessons. Research skills are an important part of a student's educational progress. To this extent the progression of skills will become more challenging as a child progresses through the grades. Therefore, recognizing the value of these skills and the integrating of research and regular class work, library will be a graded subject this year.
Students will also be allowed to check out books for a period of one week. These books may be renewed upon their return to the library.

The student must pay for lost or damaged books.
Students are allowed to help with checking out books and shelving books whenever possible to familiarize them with the library.
To assist in funding our library, there is a Library Memorial Fund that allows people to donate money as a memorial in memory of a loved one or to donate an actual text for our library. For more information please contact the librarian.
